American Dad has always been the best McFarlane show. Mainly because it has a totally different writing staff that actually knows what the fuck it’s doing vs the Family Guy staff that just makes “Remember that time when...” jokes every 5 seconds.

Agreed 100%. I vaguely recall reading that McFarlane doesn’t have any involvement with the show beyond voice acting and that he’s said he really doesn’t “get it.”
